Anyway, having a smaller ball doesn't affect the Recall affect in RI like it did in BQ. But maybe that's just me because I was so used to the Break Quest version. This is useful when you want to be very exact getting a tough ring, but not so useful when you just want to nudge the ball and it goes the opposite direction than you wanted. Instead of just being pulled towards the bottom of the screen, the ball is pulled directly towards your ship. In Ricochet Infinity, there is this Recall feature, but it is slightly different. In Break Quest the size (and presumably mass) of the ball also affected how strongly the gravity affected it. You had a limited supply of this power, but it recharged fairly quickly. In Break Quest, holding the right mouse button activated a kind of gravity, which pulled the ball down towards the bottom of the screen. As far as I can tell, the first time I've ever seen a feature like this was Break Quest, which is another excellent Arkanoid-type game, and in some ways better than this one, although without the longetivity. Some power-ups are so powerful that getting them will decimate the level quickly, so I usually avoid them until I have all 5 rings.įinally, there is the Recall feature. You get extra lives by points and power-ups only now. Anyway, once you finish a level you can always return to it to get rings: ones that you've gotten already are silver, and as soon as you get the last ring you can quit the level and it will save it. I don't know if you get anything for acquiring all the trophies. There is also a " Trophy Room" which is pretty much like Achievements on the XBox 360. Each ship has a special ability that is applied when a certain powerup drops, although it is just a combination of other, regular powerups. The rings are still in the game, but now your total number is used to advance in rank, and new ranks unlock new ships (paddles) and new balls. There's about 6 new graphical styles, and online downloading of new level sets, along with rating, has been included. There's a lot more " scripting", as bricks can now mimic the paddle, move relative to the ring, and several other things. There are tons more powerups, and while some of them are just natural extensions of the genre (or similar to other games), others are really different. I say in the tagline of this post that it is the TCB of the Ricochet series, and I think others that have played this series will agree. It didn't add any more features.įinally, this weekend Ricochet Infinity was released. And then there was an expansion pack to RLW made up of user-made levels, but I never bought that one so I can't say how good the quality was. You could also make your own levels and they hosted them online, but you had to download and install them separately. Every level has 5 rings, and if you get them all you get 5 more rings and, well, status I guess. The sequel, Ricochet Lost Worlds, added more powerups and rings. The first one, Ricochet Extreme, was a pretty basic Arkanoid clone.
